Trucks and boats are noisy electrical environments. Starters, alternators, inverters, and pumps all put ripples on the 12V rail.
The classic scenario: a truck where the head unit is hardwired into a cab circuit that also feeds power outlets and a small inverter. The driver plugs in an air compressor, the voltage sags, and the Garmin reboots. It looks like a failure. It's a brown-out. The driver is certain the unit is defective, and I get a warranty request instead of a wiring question.

Every day it ran the Turtle Canyon Snorkel Oahu route — the shallow reef off Waikiki where snorkel boats drop tourists to swim with turtles.
